I had one of my better weeks last week, getting somewhat near that 100 point mark. I posted 82.34 points, which is the closest I’ve been without exceeding 100 points. I’m still struggling to find value at the running back position, where I posted a combined 9.5 points last week, despite having one of my better weeks. The B-Team series is where I construct a hypothetical fantasy football lineup consisting of players owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. The goal of the series is to score 100 fantasy points with the made-up team and to show that there is regular value on the waiver wire and a competent fantasy player can find that value.
Last week it was the tight end that led me in scoring as Jonnu Smith had 19.8 points. Cole Beasley, who has turned into a regular in this series, had 13.1 points and another regular, DeVante Parker, had 11.9. I also posted a near season-high score with Keke Coutee getting me zero points. This week I have two players from last week in my lineup. I feel like I’ve used and abused Beasley at this point and will try to look elsewhere. Let’s see how I did last week below. You can also find previous week’s results at the end of this article.

Week 9 Picks
Quarterback
Sam Darnold (New York Jets) - Owned in 26% of Yahoo and 15.9% of ESPN leagues
I’ll follow suit with what I said last week. Whichever quarterback plays the Miami Dolphins, play them in fantasy. Darnold has been struggling since his return from mono. This is the game where he could finally get going. He had a somewhat decent week last week posting 15.62 fantasy points. The Dolphins have allowed the fourth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks as well. I’m projecting a 20+ fantasy point performance out of Darnold this week, which would go a long way in helping me reach my 100 point goal.
Runningbacks
Alexander Mattison (Minnesota Vikings) - Owned in 32% of Yahoo and 20.7% of ESPN leagues
Mattison has also been a regular in this series, making his third appearance of the season this week. Again, the pickings for running backs are very limited. Mattison has seen 10+ carries in three of his last six games and has topped seven in five of those six games. The Vikings get a match-up with the Kansas City Chiefs, who have allowed the third most fantasy points to opposing running backs. The Chiefs will most likely be without Patrick Mahomes as well. The Vikings could get up early on the Chiefs with the way they’ve been playing recently and ride the running game of Mattison and Dalvin Cook against the poor run defense.
J.D. McKissic (Detroit Lions) - Owned in 12% of Yahoo and 5.9% of ESPN leagues
Last week I had a lot of faith in McKissic, before he posted 3.1 fantasy points. This week should be a bit different, as Tra Carson, who stole 12 carries last week from McKissic and Ty Johnson, has hit the IR. This runningback-by-committee has gone from three to two. This ultimately guarantees McKissic more touches, who saw just four chances a week ago. The Oakland Raiders also aren’t great against the run, but they’re also not bad. They’ve allowed the 16th most fantasy points to opposing runningbacks.
Wide Receivers
DeVante Parker (Miami Dolphins) - Owned in 34% of Yahoo and 19.8% of ESPN leagues
Parker is currently the WR42, even with a slow start of the season. As of late, he has been coming on as an actual fantasy football valued receiver. I used him last week where he had another 10+ point performance. He’s now posted 10+ fantasy points in four straight games and gets a juicy match-up with the New York Jets, who have allowed the eighth most fantasy points to opposing receivers. Parker has also gone over 50 receiving yards in five of seven games this season and has three touchdowns on the season. I’d use Parker as a WR3 or flex option in my 10-or-12 man leagues this week.
Zach Pascal (Indianapolis Colts) - Owned in 15% of Yahoo and 2.1% of ESPN leagues
We learned recently that T.Y. Hilton is set to miss three weeks with a calf injury. With that being said, someone will have to step up to fill the void that Hilton leaves in the offense. Pascal is set to be that guy. He had the best game of his career two weeks ago where he posted two touchdowns. He gets a match-up with the Pittsburgh Steelers who have given up the 16th most fantasy points to opposing receivers. The Colts are a very good team and will look to keep it going against the Steelers, we can only hope that Pascal is a large part of that.
Tight End
Jonnu Smith (Tennessee Titans) - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 12.4% of ESPN leagues
I flirted with the idea of maybe playing someone like Cameron Brate or Jack Doyle at my tight end this week, but I just couldn’t pull the trigger. Smith lead me last week with a near 20 point fantasy performance, I have to continue to go with him if I can. Delaine Walker is set to miss his second straight game with an ankle injury. Smith caught six of seven targets for 78 yards and a touchdown last week. I know this week he doesn’t have an ideal match-up as the Carolina Panthers have allowed the ninth fewest fantasy points to opposing tight ends. I love playing the Titans’ tight end no matter the match-up and I think Smith has another impressive game.
Flex
Chris Conley (Jacksonville Jaguars) - Owned in 31% of Yahoo and 20.4% of ESPN leagues
It’s still unclear if Dede Westbrook will play this week against the Houston Texans or not. If Dede Westbrook is not to play, that’s a huge bonus for us, but I still think Conley does well even if Westbrook is in. Conley had an impressive 20.3 fantasy point performance, catching four of seven targets for 103 yards and a touchdown. That also was a result of Westbrook not playing. What really had he leaning towards Conley was the fact that the Texans have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers. The Jaguars could have three receivers with fantasy value this week.
Defense
Miami Dolphins - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.6% of ESPN leagues
Weird, right? The Dolphins’ defense is not good at all, but they have a very nice match-up. This is a little counterproductive as I’m also fielding Sam Darnold this week. The Jets have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing defenses however, which is promising. I would have loved to go Cleveland Browns or even the New York Jets here, but over the week, they’re gone over the 40-percent owned mark.
