Welcome to the first installment of the Fantasy Basketball Waiver Wire Wishlist for the 2024-25 season. If you’ve followed us through the fantasy football season, you know I produce a weekly Waiver Wire Wishlist for that as well. In future week’s, I’ll recap how our previous week's suggestions have performed prior to offering that respective week’s suggestions.
Each week, I will suggest my favorite fantasy basketball waiver wire targets that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo leagues. To be honest, I don’t play on ESPN so I can’t access their ownership numbers. I will also suggest a player that is eligible in each of the five positions (PG, SG, SF, PF and C.) Additionally, at least one suggestion will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo leagues.
Week 2 Suggestions
Dennis Schroder, PG, Brooklyn Nets (Owned in 40% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 2 Matchups: vs. DEN, @MEM, vs. CHI & vs. DET
Schroder has been brilliant to open the season for the Brooklyn Nets. Schroder just exploded for 29 points and six assists in the Nets’ victory on Sunday over the Milwaukee Bucks. That followed a 20 point performance against the Magic on Friday. Shroder has played over 32 minutes in each of his first three games of the season. He’s also topped six assists in each of those three games as well.
Wendell Carter Jr., C, Orlando Magic (Owned in 39% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 2 Matchups: vs. IND, @CHI, @CLE & @DAL
Carter has opened the season as the starting center for the Magic. He’s played 27, 31 and 31 minutes respectively across the Magic’s first three games as well. In doing so, he’s grabbed 14, 11 and ten rebounds respectively as well. That averages out to 11.7 rebounds-per-game to start his season. He also gets four games this week, which is definitely a bonus. If you’re in the need of rebounding, Carter is your guy.
De’Andre Hunter, SF/PF, Atlanta Hawks (Owned in 32% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 2 Matchups: vs. WAS, @WAS, vs. SAC & @NO
Hunter missed the Hawks’ Sunday contest with the Oklahoma City Thunder with a knee injury. That injury is deemed ‘short term’ and he could be back in the Hawks’ lineup as early as today (Monday.) In his last outing against the Charlotte Hornets, Hunter put in 24 points in 33 minutes played. He added seven rebounds, three assists and a block in that matchup as well. He also put in 12 points in the Hawks’ opener. Hunter is a major part of this Hawks’ team and he does a bit of everything. The four game week also helps.
Jeremy Sochan, SF/PF, San Antonio Spurs (Owned in 34% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 2 Matchups: vs. HOU, @OKC, @UTA & vs. MIN
Despite all of the hype and attention around Victor Wembenyama, Sochan, a former lottery pick himself, has been rather good for the Spurs. He just played 37 minutes in his last outing against the Rockets and played 27 minutes in the Spurs opener against the Mavericks. Sochan is also a very good rebounder. In that game against the Rockets, he scored 17 points but also grabbed 12 rebounds. He scored 18 points in the Spurs’ opener and grabbed six boards as well.
Tre Mann, PG/SG, Charlotte Hornets (Owned in 35% of Yahoo Leagues
Week 2 Matchups: vs. TOR, vs. BOS & vs. BOS
Tre Mann has been excellent for the Hornets to open the season. He’s played 29, 25 and 32 minutes respectively and has scored at least 14 points in each of those three events. He put in 24 points to open the season for the Hornets against the Rockets as well. He’s also averaging 4.7 rebounds, three assists and 0.7 steals through the first three games of the season as well. The three game week isn’t ideal, but I don’t see Mann’s value being a flash in the pan.
Bilal Coulibaly, SG/SF, Washington Wizards (Owned in 18% of Yahoo Leagues
Week 2 Matchups: @ATL, vs. ATL & vs. MIA
Coulibaly opened the season with eight points, six rebounds, six assists and a steal against the defending NBA Champions. He followed that up with a 23 point, six rebound performance against the Cleveland Cavaliers. This Washington team is very bad so we know someone like Coulibaly is not going to see much in terms of competition for playing time. He can be someone to contribute in nearly every category in fantasy basketball when he’s on the floor.
Toumani Camara, PF, Portland Trail Blazers (Owned in 7% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 2 Matchups: @SAC, @LAC, vs. OKC & @PHX
Camara is defense first type of player who has seen a larger role to start the season due to that. Despite being a defense first type of player, he’s contributed across the board for the Trail Blazers to open the season. He’s scored at least 11 points in two of his first three games. He’s seen at least 25 minutes in each of his first three games as well, while seeing over 30 minutes in two of them. He’s averaging eight points, six rebounds, three assists and 1.5 steals to start the season. This is a guy owned in less than ten-percent of leagues contributing across the board.
