Once again, I apologize for being absent again last week. I continue to recover from spinal surgery and although I have all the free time in the world, I just couldn’t come to writing this article last week. Hopefully all of that is behind me as I progress through that. Either way, we’re here to talk about the fantasy basketball waiver wire. So without further ado, let’s get into it!
Each week, I will suggest my favorite fantasy basketball waiver wire targets that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo leagues. To be honest, I don’t play on ESPN so I can’t access their ownership numbers. I will also suggest a player that is eligible in each of the five positions (PG, SG, SF, PF and C.) Additionally, at least one suggestion will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo leagues.
Week 7 Suggestions
Malcolm Brogdon, PG/SG, Washington Wizards (Owned in 34% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: @CLE, vs. DAL, vs. DEN & vs. MEM
After returning to action for the first time this season due to a thumb injury, Brogdon has taken no time to find his form. In his most recent outing against the Bucks, he topped 30 minutes for the first time in the seven games he’s played this season. In that game he shot an impressive 10-for-15 from the floor, going for 29 points, 11 rebounds and three assists. He’s topped 15 points in each of his last five games. Brogdon is a must add in all formats.
Yves Missi, C, New Orleans Pelicans (Owned in 28% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: @ATL, vs. PHX, vs. OKC & @SAS
This year’s New Orleans Pelicans team may be the most injury riddled team in modern history. As it seems everyone and their brother on this roster has been injured, the one constant that has remained relatively healthy has been Missi. He has recorded two double-doubles in two-of-his-last-four games. Across his last five games he’s averaging 13.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and 1.8 blocks-per-game. He’s essentially averaging a double-double with nearly two blocks-per-game in that time span. Missi is nearing must add territory in all formats.
Marcus Smart, PG/SG, Memphis Grizzlies (Owned in 27% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: @DAL, vs. SAC, @BOS & @WAS
The fact Smart is owned in just a quarter of leagues is a bit mind blowing. Over his last three games, he has been a top 20 player in nine-category leagues despite playing just over 23 minutes-per-game. I typically tend to gravitate towards guys playing upwards of 30 minutes-per-game when it comes to the waiver wire but what Smart is doing cannot be ignored.
Malik Beasley, SG, Detroit Pistons (Owned in 33% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: vs. MIL, @BOS & @NYK
Despite having only three games this week, Beasley offers more value long term. He is averaging 30.9 minutes-per-game over his last ten games. Over his last 13 games he’s averaging 19.5 points-per-game and doing so on good percentages, especially from three. Beasley is a pure scorer who adds a few rebounds and assists along the way. Anyone he’s averaging over 30 minutes-per-game and nearly 20 points needs to be rostered.
Nick Richards, C, Charlotte Hornets (Owned in 34% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: vs. PHI, @NYK, vs. CLE & @IND
Now’s your one chance to get Richards via the waiver wire because come this time next week, you won’t be able to. If you’re in need for rebounding and blocks, this is your solution. In his first action since Nov. 1st, he recorded 12 points, six rebounds and three blocks in 25 minutes coming off the bench. He’ll return to the starting lineup in due time where he’ll see 30-plus minutes-per-game. On the season, although in limited action, he’s averaging 11.2 points, 9.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks-per-game.
Guerschon Yabusele, PF/C, Philadelphia 76ers (Owned in 13% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: @CHA, vs. ORL, vs. ORL & @CHI
Yabusele has started his last three games for the 76ers and has bounced between the bench and starting as of late. Against the Rockets on Wednesday he played 43 minutes and put up 22 points, seven rebounds, two assists and a block. Despite bouncing between the bench and starting, he has put up double digit points in seven of his last 14 games. His minutes are too sporadic for me to fully back but with the injuries the 76ers have seen to start the season, he’s worth a chance in deeper leagues.
Duncan Robinson, SG/SF, Miami Heat (Owned in 8% of Yahoo Leagues)
Week 7 Games: @BOS, vs. LAL, vs. PHX & vs. CLE
Over his last four games, Robinson has played 28:15 minutes-per-game. In those same four games he’s averaged 12.8 points-per-game, 2.8 rebounds and 2.5 assists. What he does better than most is shoot for a high percentage from beyond the arc. Over those same four games he shot 42.9-percent from three. He is nursing left glute tightness while doing all of this. In deeper leagues, Robinson is worth a look.
