Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season is in the books and with that comes results from the first week of the Streamable Defenses of the Week. Our top suggestion of Week 1 in the Seattle Seahawks finished the week top ten in terms of D/ST with nine fantasy points. Our middle and under 10-percent owned suggestions weren’t the best, but they scored points and weren’t in the negatives. That’s a win for Week 1 in my books. Let’s crack on to Week 2!
I’m one to never invest a high draft stock into team defenses. I play the waiver wire every single week to find my D/ST for the upcoming week. Due to this, I find myself never drafting a defense and waiting for just before the start of Week 1 to grab my first defense of the season. This is where this series comes into play. Every week I will be suggesting my favorite three team defenses that are regularly available on waiver wires across most formats. I will also keep a running total of how my selections measure up across the season below.
The premise of this article is to bring forth three streamable defenses that fantasy football players should look to use for that respective week. To qualify for this series, defenses must be owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of the suggested defenses will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues to cater to as many fantasy players as possible. You can find last week’s results below and previous week’s results at the bottom of this article.
The Seattle Seahawks held the visiting Denver Broncos and rookie quarterback Bo Nix in check. They allowed just 16 points while recording two sacks, two interceptions and recovered a fumble. The Atlanta Falcons’ defense didn’t play poorly in their loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers but only recorded two sacks while allowing 18 points en route to three fantasy points. The Buccaneers put it to the Commanders but recorded just three fantasy points while allowing 20 points and recording just two sacks.

Week 2 Suggestions
Los Angeles Chargers at Carolina Panthers - Owned in 15% of Yahoo and 10.8% of ESPN Leagues
The Carolina Panthers once again will be a team we follow every week we get the chance with this series. The Panthers managed just ten points in their Week 1 loss to the New Orleans Saints. The Saints also racked up four sacks, two interceptions and a fumble recovery. I don’t see things changing anytime soon for the Panthers. The Chargers’ defense also had an impressive outing in Week 1 against the Raiders. The Chargers allowed just ten points while recording four sacks, an interception and two fumble recoveries. This Chargers’ defense is sneaky good with some great pieces on it. Combine that with how bad the Panthers’ offense is and it could be a big week for the Los Angeles defense in Week 2.
Jacksonville Jaguars vs. Cleveland Browns - Owned in 4% of Yahoo and 32.3% of ESPN Leagues
This is another example of an okay defense getting a plus matchup in Week 2. The Jaguars’ defensive stats from Week 1 won’t jump off the page at you but they did play one of the NFL’s best offenses in the Miami Dolphins and held them to just 20 points. The Jaguars also recorded three sacks in that game. The Browns are once again very bad, led by Deshaun Watson who is also very bad. Watson was sacked six times last week and also threw two interceptions to the Cowboys. New allegations have also surfaced against Watson so who even knows what is going to happen in Cleveland. One thing I am sure of, is that it will not be good.
Washington Commanders at New York Giants - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.9% of ESPN Leagues
Like the Carolina Panthers, the New York Giants will be a team I follow closely this season with this series. The Giants managed just six points last week against the Minnesota Vikings. Daniel Jones was also sacked five times and threw two interceptions, one of which was returned for a defensive touchdown. The Washington defense was far from impressive in their Week 1 outing against the Buccaneers but again, this is a plus matchup in our less than 10-percent owned suggestion. We’ll take it.
