We’re back with our Week 3 edition of the Streamable Defenses. Each week we will offer three defenses that are widely owned in most leagues. We try to stay under the 40% owned mark in Yahoo and ESPN leagues with our streamable defenses to ensure that they are available in most leagues to those that are reading this. Typically you’ll see defenses more towards the 40% mark and one that is vastly unowned. We will also track our last week picks to see how we did. You can find past results at the bottom of this article as well in the future.
Week 2 Results
Week 2 was rather successful for us. Our top defense posted a double-digit point performance with our second option coming just shy. Even our third option posted six points, which is not a bad performance.
Houston Texans vs. Jacksonville Jaguars - 10 Points
Tennessee Titans vs. Indianapolis Colts - 8 Points
Carolina Panthers vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers - 6 Points
Week 3 Streamable Defenses
Green Bay Packers vs. Denver Broncos (Owned in 20% of Yahoo and 7.1% of ESPN leagues)
It’s weird to say, but the Green Bay Packers have a very good defense. They’re currently the DST4 following games with the Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings. Now they get another favorable matchup with the Denver Broncos. The Broncos have given up an average of 10.5 fantasy points to opposing defenses (Raiders and Bears) across the first two weeks of the season. The Packers are also playing at home, which is always a benefit for DSTs.
San Francisco 49ers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (Owned in 20% of Yahoo and 14.2% of ESPN leagues)
The 49ers are another one of those defenses, much like the Green Bay Packers, who are playing way above expectations. Through the first two weeks of the season and two away games with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Cincinnati Bengals, the 49ers are the DST2, to only the New England Patriots. They’re finally home for the first time this year and will welcome the underperforming Pittsburgh Steelers, who just lost Ben Roethlisberger for the season. They’ll be up against Mason Rudolph. Look for mistakes from the second year man and first time starter.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. New York Giants (Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.6% of ESPN leagues)
Again, the Buccaneers’ defense looks like a completely different team in 2019. Under the guidance of defensive mastermind Todd Bowles, this defense is actually competent, which is something you couldn’t say in years past. Through the first two weeks of the season Tampa’s defense ranks seventh in fantasy football, with games against the San Francisco 49ers and Carolina Panthers. Now they’ll get to host the New York Giants, who will be led by Daniel Jones, who will make his first NFL start. Look for this quality Bucs’ defense to get a turnover or two on Sunday and have another good week.
