I had all of the confidence in the world that our Week 12 lineup would be a success. Outside of our quarterback and defense, we had a big swing-and-a-miss. Heck, I thought I was getting clever with my Kendall Hinton play at wide receiver. Boy was I wrong. We have just four weeks of fantasy football left to achieve our 100 point goal a few more times.
This is a series where I construct a hypothetical fantasy football lineup using players that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. The goal of the series is to top 100 PPR fantasy points using the make-shift team. The premise is to show that there is readily available value at all times across most waiver wires. You can find last week’s results below and the result of previous weeks at the bottom of this article.
Ryan Fitzpatrick’s return to the Miami Dolphins’ starting position was a success, as he went for 19.28 fantasy points on 257 yards and two touchdowns. Besides Fitzpatrick, our defense was actually our top scoring player. The Panthers’ defense scored two defensive touchdowns and recovered three fumbles. Benny Snell Jr. was our only other player to top ten fantasy points with 12.3 points.
Week 12 Results
Ryan Fitzpatrick (Miami Dolphins) - 19.28 points
Brian Hill (Atlanta Falcons) - 5.5 points
Benny Snell Jr. (Pittsburgh Steelers) - 12.3 points
Kendall Hinton (Denver Broncos) - -0.78 points
Nelson Agholor (Las Vegas Raiders) - 10.4 points
Jordan Reed (San Francisco 49ers) - 3.8 points
Jalen Reagor (Philadelphia Eagles) - 4.1 points
Carolina Panthers - 19 points
Total: 73.6 points
Week 13 Lineup
Quarterback
Colt McCoy (New York Giants) - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.3% of ESPN leagues
Wait what? Colt McCoy? Are you serious? Why yes, yes I am. That matchup is there. The Seattle Seahawks have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. We haven’t seen McCoy start a game since last season and he has only thrown ten passes this season. I don’t think there’s much of a fantasy difference between Daniel Jones and Colt McCoy at this point if we’re being honest.
Runningbacks
Devontae Booker (Las Vegas Raiders) - Owned in 42% of Yahoo and 19.7% of ESPN leagues
Josh Jacobs won’t play for the Raiders this week against the New York Jets, leaving Booker as the main back. The Jets have also allowed the 10th most fantasy points to opposing runningbacks. Finding runningbacks is tough for this series at this part of the season. When you can lock down a starting back you have to do it. That’s what we’re getting here with Booker.
Frank Gore (New York Jets) - Owned in 34% of Yahoo and 26.7% of ESPN leagues
I have to do it. The floor for Frank Gore is something we can hang our hats on. As pretty much the only runningback left in New York, Gore will get his touches. He’s seen 15 and 18 touches respectively over the last two weeks against the Chargers and Dolphins. He gets a matchup with the Las Vegas Raiders this week who have allowed the fourth most fantasy points to opposing runningbacks.
Wide Receivers
Denzel Mims (New York Jets) - Owned in 9% of Yahoo and 7.4% of ESPN leagues
Mims has seen at least seven targets in four-of-his-five career starts. I guess you can say I expect this Raiders-Jets game to be something as this is my third player from that game in my lineup. Mims has yet to find the endzone in his young career, but has topped at least 62 yards in each of his last three games. We’re waiting for that career break-out game for Mims and this is the week we could see it.
Keke Coutee (Houston Texans) - Owned in 16% of Yahoo and 7.6% of ESPN leagues
Kenny Stills was cut and Will Fuller is facing a six game suspension. This leaves Coutee to be the team’s WR2 next to Brandin Cooks. The matchup is not ideal this week against the Colts, but with the way this Texans’ offense is playing, especially Deshaun Watson, this team could be matchup proof. If Coutee gets a portion of the targets vacated by Fuller with Watson throwing him the ball, he’ll put up some fantasy points.
Tight End
Kyle Rudolph (Minnesota Vikings) - Owned in 17% of Yahoo and 14.4% of ESPN leagues
Kyle Rudolph ran 37 routes last week, the second most of all tight ends last week .Irv Smith Jr. has been ruled out for the second straight week. Rudolph gets a matchup with the Jacksonville Jaguars who have allowed the eighth most fantasy points to opposing tight ends. Rudolph should see similar work in Week 13 as he saw in Week 12.
Flex
Allen Lazard (Green Bay Packers) - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 30.1% of ESPN leagues
Lazard found himself back in the endzone last week for the first time since returning from injury. As he continues to get to full health, operating as the WR2 in Green Bay, he should be rostered well over 40-percent of leagues. As Davante Adams should see Darius Slay, Lazard could see more work this week .If he is to see an uptick of volume, he could have a big week against the Eagles.
Defense
Las Vegas Raiders - Owned in 36% of Yahoo and 22.2% of ESPN leagues
This is simple. Any defense that plays the New York Jets needs to be played. The Jets have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing defenses. There isn’t much else to say. You get the point.
