The B-Team - Week 5 (2024)

We weren’t able to find paydirt in back-to-back weeks after hitting our 100 point goal in Week 3. Week 4 wasn’t a complete flop however, as we came across the finish line with 70.3 total fantasy points with some quality performances across the board. The duo of Xavier Legette and Wan’Dale Robinson led the charge for us with 19.6 and 18.1 fantasy points respectively. Beyond that pairing, there wasn’t much else to write home about. Let’s see what we can muster up in Week 5!

This is a series where I construct a hypothetical fantasy football lineup using players that are owned in less than 40-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. The goal of the series is to top 100 PPR fantasy points using the make-shift team. The premise is to show that there is readily available value at all times across most waiver wires. You can find last week’s results below and the result of previous weeks at the bottom of this article in the future!

Legette caught six-of-ten targets for 66 yards and a touchdown in the Panthers’ Week 4 loss to the Bengals. Robinson saw an insane 14 targets in the Giants’ Week 4 Thursday Night Football matchup with the Dallas Cowboys. He caught 11 of them for 71 yards. Beyond that, we didn’t have any other stellar performances in Week 4.

Week 4 Results

  • QB: Daniel Jones (New York Giants) - 10.5 Points

  • RB: Alexander Mattison (Las Vegas Raiders) - 6 Points

  • RB: Cam Akers (Houston Texans) - 5.3 Points

  • WR: Wan’Dale Robinson (New York Giants) - 18.1 Points

  • WR: Xavier Legette (Carolina Panthers) - 19.6 Points

  • TE: Tyler Conklin (New York Jets) - 5.7 Points

  • Flex: DeMario Douglas (New England Patriots) - 4.3 Points

  • Flex: Gabe Davis (Jacksonville Jaguars) - 0.8 Points

  • Total: 70.3 Points

Weekly Results

  • Week 1: 78.4 Points

  • Week 2: 47.4 Points

  • Week 3: 107.6 Points

  • Week 4: 70.3 Points

Week 5 Lineup

Quarterback

Daniel Jones (New York Giants) - Owned in 9% of Yahoo and 13.3% of ESPN Leagues

Danile Jones was our quarterback for this series a week ago and he didn’t perform too well. He still threw for 281 yards, the touchdowns just were not there. Jones also adds value with his legs which too was absent from last week’s loss to the Dallas Cowboys. He’ll be without Malik Nabers this week but Wan’Dale Robinson has emerged as a real talent in that Giants’ receiving corp. He’ll get the Seahawks this week, which is a touch matchup, which may result in him running the football more. That would be ideal for this series.

Running Backs

Cam Akers (Houston Texans) - Owned in 30% of Yahoo and 40.7% of ESPN Leagues

I know, I know. Akers has been bad in his appearances so far this season. However, the matchup is too good to ignore this week. Now, there are still question marks on Dameon Pierce if he’ll play this week or not. Pierce practiced for the first time since Week 2 on Friday as he’ll likely be a true game-time decision for the Texans’ Week 5 matchup with the Bills. Joe Mixon remains sidelined however. Either way, Akers should lead this backfield, even if Pierce is to play. The Bills have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing runningbacks through the first four weeks of the season.

Tyrone Tracy Jr. (New York Giants) - Owned in 16% of Yahoo and 13.7% of ESPN Leagues

Tracy will likely serve as the Giants’ leadback in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks as Devin Singletary is listed as doubtful. Tracy has seen 12 touches over the last two weeks. Although he was inefficient in those chances, any running back eligible for this series that’ll serve as the team’s lead back needs to be played. It’s all about opportunities here.

Wide Receivers

Josh Downs (Indianapolis Colts) - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 33.1% of ESPN Leagues

This Downs’ role, although filled by Alec Pierce for the first two weeks of the season, has been productive every week for the Colts. Since coming back, Downs has seen 14 targets, catching 11 of them for 104 yards and a score. Anthony Richardson will not play this week, but I’d argue at this point, Joe Flacco is better for Downs and his fellow receivers in terms of production and fantasy football.

Xavier Legette (Carolina Panthers) - Owned in 31% of Yahoo and 35% of ESPN Leagues

Legette was our top performer a week ago and qualifies once again for this series. He saw ten targets a week ago, catching six of them for 66 yards and a score. The matchup isn’t ideal for Legette this week against the Bears, but Andy Dalton has thrown for 539 yards and five touchdowns in his two starts on the season. Adam Thielen remains out and in turn, Legette will once again be the Panthers’ lead receiver in Week 5.

Tight End

Colby Parkinson (Los Angeles Rams) - Owned in 21% of Yahoo and 44.6% of ESPN Leagues

The receiving corps for the Rams remains a giant question marks with the likes of Puka Nacua and Cooper Kupp on the IR which means the targets from Matthew Stafford will be scattered each week. Now, Parkinson has seen 11 targets over his last two outings, catching seven of them for 54 yards. I’ll take a tight end seeing over five targets a game in this series every week.

Flex

Tutu Atwell (Los Angeles Rams) - Owned in 17% of Yahoo and 23.5% of ESPN Leagues

Just as I stated with talking about Colby Parkinson, the receiving corps of the Los Angeles Rams is up in the air. However, over the last two weeks, it’s been led by Atwell. He’s seen 11 targets over the last two weeks, catching eight of them for 175 yards. He gets the Packers this week who have allowed the seventh most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers as well.

Tre Tucker (Las Vegas Raiders) - Owned in 18% of Yahoo and 16.6% of ESPN Leagues

Davante Adams will miss another game, seeing Jakobi Meyers continue on as the Raiders WR1 and Tucker slotting in as the WR2. Tucker has seen 15 targets over the last two weeks, catching 12 of them for 137 yards and a touchdown. It’s not the ideal matchup with the Broncos but I have to once again go with volume here.
