Waiver Wire Wishlist - Week 7 (2024)

It was another week of striking some gold via the waiver wire for our Waiver Wire Wishlist series in Week 6. The likes of Tyrone Tracy Jr. finished the week with 22.7 points placing him as the RB5 on the week prior to Monday Night Football. Josh Downs continues to show out for the Indianapolis Colts with a 19.5 fantasy point performance against the Tennessee Titans. DeMario Douglas popped off (pun intended) for 21.1 fantasy points for the New England Patriots. The waiver wire constantly has gems to be found so let’s see what Week 7 has in store for us!

Each week, I will develop a list of must add targets for fantasy football leagues. My goal is to keep each suggestion under 40-percent owned in Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of my suggestions will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. I will also strive to have at least one player per position (QB, WR, RB and TE.)

Tracy filled in for a second straight week for the injured Devin Singletary as he ran the ball 17 times for 50 yards and a touchdown. He also caught all six of his targets for 57 yards, good enough for 22.7 fantasy points. Downs caught seven-of-nine targets for 66 yards and a touchdown for the Colts, good enough for 19.5 fantasy points. Douglas caught six-of-nine targets for 92 yards and a score in his first game with Drake Maye under center, totaling 21.1 fantasy points.

Week 7 Suggestions

Quarterbacks

Daniel Jones (New York Giants) - Owned in 21% of Yahoo and 28.2% of ESPN Leagues

Jones was not overly impressive in his Sunday Night Football tilt against the Cincinnati Bengals but still threw for 205 yards. The team just couldn’t get into the endzone. Jones’ rushing ability is what continues to allow him to appear in this series. He has rushed the ball 11 times each of the last two weeks. Malik Nabers could also return this week against Philadelphia, which will only help Jones. The Giants’ schedule too is very favorable for Jones over the next few weeks. He gets Philadelphia this week who have allowed the tenth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. Then outside of a game against the Steelers, he gets Washington (seventh most,) Carolina (sixth most) and then following the team’s bye, Tampa Bay (second most.)

Drake Maye (New England Patriots) - Owned in 6% of Yahoo and 3.8% of ESPN Leagues

Maye made his first start against the Houston Texans this past week as he threw for 243 yards and three touchdowns on 20-for-33 passing. He also ran the ball five times for 38 yards. That was good enough for 19.52 fantasy points in his first start. The Patriots also get Jacksonville this week who have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks on the season.

Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) - Owned in 44% of Yahoo and 26.9% of ESPN Leagues

Tua is eligible to return to action come Week 8. That leaves one more week that he can be stashed. The Dolphins have shown that without Tua, they are one of the worst offenses in the league. With him, they are one of the best. I don’t often suggest stashing quarterbacks but in this event, it could be a league winner. Grab him now as this could be your last chance.

Runninbacks

Ty Chandler (Minnesota Vikings) - Owned in 27% of Yahoo and 33.4% of ESPN Leagues

Chandler was included in last week’s edition of this series as a stash candidate. Now, fresh off a bye and as Aaron Jones continues to nurse a hip injury, Chandler should see increased chances. Chandler is a big-play potential everytime he touches the football. He ran the ball 14 times for 30 yards and caught both of his targets in the Vikings’ victory over the Jets in London in Week 5 filling in for Jones. However, he had two big plays called back for injury that would have changed his stat line drastically. The Vikings need the running game to keep their improbable run going.

Issac Guerendo (San Francisco 49ers) - Owned in 4% of Yahoo and 0.9% of ESPN Leagues

It’s simply the next man up in San Francisco. As Christmas McCaffrey and Elijah Mitchell remain sidelined, the team lost Jordan Mason to an AC joint sprain for the majority of their Thursday Night Football victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Guerendo filled in for Mason, rushing the ball ten times for 99 yards. In the event Mason is to miss time, Guerendo is an easy plug-and-play.

Braelon Allen (New York Jets) - Owned in 47% of Yahoo and 36.9% of ESPN Leagues

The New York Jets are a mess. They recently dismissed head coach Robert Salah and named Jeff Ulbrich as the interim head coach. They also announced that Todd Downing will be their offensive play calling over Nathaniel Hackett moving forward. It’s tough to say this, but Downing may be worse than Hackett. Either way, the Jets will have to rely heavily on the rushing game moving forward and Allen has proven to be more than just a rotational piece alongside Breece Hall.

Sean Tucker (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 1% of ESPN Leagues

With Rachaad White sidelined, Bucky Irving headlined the Buccaneers’ backfield going into their Week 6 game against the New Orleans Saints. Now Irving had a good game, but he was outshined by Sean Tucker. Tucker ran the ball 14 times for 136 yards and a touchdown while catching three targets for 56 yards and a score. This backfield has become way too muddy to point towards one of the three backs on any given week. White has struggled and this backfield has now turned into a true committee. It also doesn’t help that the Buccaneers’ schedule included three straight games coming up against the Ravens (who have allowed the fourth fewest fantasy points to opposing runningbacks,) the Falcons (fifth fewest) and the Chiefs (the fewest.)

Kimani Vidal (Los Angeles Chargers) - Owned in 11% of Yahoo and 2.3% of ESPN Leagues

The rookie out of Troy made his NFL debut in Week 6 and made quick work in finding the endzone, catching a wheel route from Justin Herbert. He finished the game rushing the ball four times for 11 yards and catching both targets for 40 yards and a score. Gus Edwards is on the IR and this is J.K. Dobbin’s backfield but if we know anything from Jim Harbaugh is that he’s going to run the football at all costs.

Trey Benson (Arizona Cardinals) - Owned in 19% of Yahoo and 20% of ESPN Leagues

I’ve been chomping at the bit to talk about Benson. If you followed along in the pre-season, you know I’m all in on him. He saw five carries in the Cardinals’ loss to the Packers for just 26 yards but James Conner only saw six. Benson is the heir apparent to Conner so it’s only fitting the team gets him more involved. It’s also worth noting that Conner is not a picture of health also.

Wide Receivers

JuJu Smith-Schuster (Kansas City Chiefs) - Owned in 32% of Yahoo and 17.8% of ESPN Leagues

It’s the Patrick Mahomes effect. As the team lost Rashee Rice to injury, Smith-Schuster emerged in Week 5 as their lead receiver. He caught seven-of-eight passes for 130 yards. That’s essentially the extent of this breakdown.

DeMario Douglas (New England Patriots) - Owned in 7% of Yahoo and 21.1% of ESPN Leagues

Douglas finally found the endzone for the first time this season with Maye under center. He has not seen nine targets in three-of-his-last four games. He caught six of his nine targets in Week 6 for 92 yards and a score. He’s the team’s best receiver and with what appears to be a massive upgrade over Jacoby Brissett, he’s only getting started. He also gets the Jaguars this week who have allowed the most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers on the season.

Michael Wilson (Arizona Cardinals) - Owned in 16% of Yahoo and 14.2% of ESPN Leagues

Marvin Harrison Jr. left the Cardinals’ Week 6 loss against the Packers with a concussion. It’s unclear at this time if he’ll miss anytime, but if he is, Wilson would step in alongside Trey McBride as Kyle Murray’s go-to-option. Wilson did secure the team’s only touchdown on Sunday, seeing four targets, catching two of them for 21 yards. Even prior, Wilson has seen at least four targets in each of his last four outings, including at least six targets between Weeks 3 and 5.

Romeo Doubs (Green Bay Packers) - Owned in 35% of Yahoo and 29.6% of ESPN Leagues

Doubs came into this week with question marks as he was nursing an injury and was disciplined by the team. Either way, neither of those setbacks stopped him as he scored two touchdowns in the Packers’ victory. He caught three-of-four targets for 49 yards and two scores. This Packers’ receiving corp is too muddy to elevate him any further in this series but he’s worth a roster spot for sure.

Jalen Tolbert (Dallas Cowboys) - Owned in 35% of Yahoo and 39.5% of ESPN Leagues

I know the Cowboys are on a bye this week, but this may be the final chance to grab Tolbert, the WR2 in Dallas. Brandin Cooks remains on the IR, opening an increased role for Tolbert who had already taken over that spot from Cooks prior to the injury. The Cowboys struggled to do anything offensively against the Lions in Week 6. Following the bye week, the Cowboys rest-of-the-season schedule looks great for receivers. They have five games against teams who have allowed at least the tenth most fantasy points to opposing receivers on the season.

Xavier Legette (Carolina Panthers) - Owned in 19% of Yahoo and 28.9% of ESPN Leagues

Legette has come back to earth after he burst onto the scene in Week 4. However, he did catch a touchdown last week against the Falcons. The volume is too inconsistent to put him further up this week but he does get the Commanders this week who have allowed the sixth most fantasy points to opposing wide receivers on the season.

Jordan Whittington (Los Angeles Rams) - Owned in 9% of Yahoo and 8.2% of ESPN Leagues

Whittington has been Matthew Stafford’s WR1 in their last two games. The team was on a bye last week but prior to that, Whittington saw 18 targets, catching 13 of them for 152 yards. Cooper Kupp could be back this week which knocks Whittington down and when Puca Nakua returns, he’ll be irrelevant.

Bub Means (New Orleans Saints) - Owned in 0% of Yahoo and 0% of ESPN Leagues

For those playing in super deep leagues or even dynasty, Means will be available. The fifth-round rookie had seen just one target on the season coming into Week 6 where he popped off for five catches on eight targets for 45 yards and a score. As Derek Carr is set to miss the next three-to-four weeks, Spencer Rattler has shown an instant connection with Means.

Tight Ends

Zach Ertz (Washington Commanders) - Owned in 25% of Yahoo and 53.5% of ESPN Leagues

As the tight end position continues to be god awful, Ertz offers a safe floor each week. Over his last five weeks, Ertz has gone under 7.7 fantasy points in full point PPR just once and even in that game, he saw eight targets. Finding someone who can at least put up a few points this season in the tight end position is worth rostering.

Cade Otton (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - Owned in 36% of Yahoo and 24% of ESPN Leagues

I guess Otton will be in this series weekly until he’s not eligible any longer. Since Week 3, he has been the third target for Baker Mayfield. He’s seen at least four targets in each of his last four games. He did score a touchdown last week as well. Again, as we talked about with Ertz, Otton offers a safe floor for this otherwise awful position.
