Waiver Wire Wishlist - Week 8 (2024)

Updated: Oct 22

Baring the results of the two Monday Night Football games in Week 7, the waiver wire was not that good to us for Week 7. We still have a bunch of suggestions from last week’s article yet to play this week as the Ravens, Buccaneers, Chargers and Cardinals have yet to play their Week 7 games as of the time of writing this. There were still a few bright spots in Drake Maye (20.8 fantasy points,) Romeo Doubs (17.4 fantasy points) and Zach Ertzs (14 fantasy points) but beyond that, Week 7 was much of a disappointment.

Each week, I will develop a list of must add targets for fantasy football leagues. My goal is to keep each suggestion under 40-percent owned in Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. At least one of my suggestions will be owned in less than 10-percent of Yahoo and/or ESPN leagues. I will also strive to have at least one player per position (QB, WR, RB and TE.)

Despite the big loss to the Jaguars in London, Maye still had a good outing in just his second start. He threw for 243 yards and two touchdowns while adding 38 yards on the ground. Doubs caught eight-of-ten targets for 94 yards as the Packers defeated the Texans. Ertz caught four-of-five targets for 40 yards and a touchdown as the Commanders stomped the Panthers.

Week 7 Results

Daniel Jones (New York Giants) - 6 Points

Drake Maye (New England Patriots) - 20.8 Points

Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) - N/a

Ty Chandler (Minnesota Vikings) - 0.4 Points

Issac Guerendo (San Francisco 49ers) - 1.7 Points

Braelon Allen (New York Jets) - 1.6 Points

Sean Tucker (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - 4.8 Points

Kimani Vidal (Los Angeles Chargers) - 2.9 Points

Trey Benson (Arizona Cardinals) - 0 Points

JuJu Smith-Schuster (Kansas City Chiefs) - 0 Points

DeMario Douglas (New England Patriots) - 3.4 Points

Michael Wilson (Arizona Cardinals) - 2.5 Points

Romeo Doubs (Green Bay Packers) - 17.4 Points

Jalen Tolbert (Dallas Cowboys) - N/a

Xavier Legette (Carolina Panthers) - 2.9 Points

Jordan Whittington (Los Angeles Rams) - 0 Points

Bub Means (New Orleans Saints) - 6.7 Points

Zach Ertz (Washington Commanders) - 14 Points

Cade Otton (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - 18 Points

Week 8 Suggestions

Quarterbacks

Tua Tagovailoa (Miami Dolphins) - Owned in 45% of Yahoo and 26.5% of ESPN Leagues

Tua has been featured in this series the last two weeks in anticipation for his return. He is finally eligible to return from his stint on the IR dating back to his Week 2 concussion. Tua was a top ten quarterback in Week 1 and was the QB9 in all of fantasy football a season ago. This Dolphins’ team desperately needs him back as it's apparent this team can’t operate without him. He also has a wonderful schedule ahead of him. He gets the Cardinals this week who have allowed the fourth most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks. He then gets the Bills (20th most,) Rams (tenth most) and Raiders (sixth most) in consecutive weeks. If you haven’t added him yet, do so now as this will be your final chance.

Jameis Winston (Cleveland Browns) - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.4% of ESPN Leagues

Dorian Thompson-Robinson served as the backup to Deshaun Watson in Week 7 after Watson went down with a torn achilles. As Watson is done for the season (and possibly forever,) Winston will step in as the Browns’ starting quarterback, despite DTR finishing the Week 7 game with the Bengals. Winston did see some game time as he came in last in the fourth quarter as the team’s emergency quarterback where he put together a touchdown drive. He’ll get the Ravens this week who have allowed the second most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks.

Drake Maye (New England Patriots) - Owned in 16% of Yahoo and 13.3% of ESPN Leagues

Despite the New England Patriots being arguably the worst team in the NFL, Maye has looked rather good in his two starts. He’s posted back-to-back fantasy lines of 19.52 and 20.84 points in those two starts. He does have a tough stretch of games coming up with the Jets (allowing the third fewest fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks,) the Titans (12th fewest) and Bears (second fewest) but what he’s done up to this point can’t be ignored.

Running Backs

Kimani Vidal (Los Angeles Chargers) - Owned in 15% of Yahoo and 7.6% of ESPN Leagues

We know that Jim Harbaugh’s offenses are always running back friendly. We’ve yet to see what Vidal will do with his increased role in Los Angeles as he plays his Week 7 matchup on Monday Night Football. However, this rookie is as explosive as they come. He showed that already as in his first game, he scored a 30-yard touchdown on a wheel route. This still remains J.K. Dobbins’ backfield but with Gus Edwards on the IR, Vidal will be involved. He also gets some great matchups coming up with the Cardinals who have allowed the tenth most fantasy points to opposing runningbacks and then the Saints who have allowed the eighth most.

Tyler Allgeier (Atlanta Falcons) - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 53.4% of ESPN Leagues

Allgeier saw his fewest touches in a game since Week 1 in the Falcons’ Week 7 loss to the Seahawks. He ran the ball five times, although for 36 yards, good enough for 7.2 yards-per-attempt. Prior to that, he ran the ball 18 times for 105 yards and a score against the Panthers. His production is obviously capped by Bijan Robinson and rightfully so, but he has the ability to take over a game when called upon.

Roschon Johnson (Chicago Bears) - Owned in 15% of Yahoo and 10.9% of ESPN Leagues

Rumors are circulating that the Bears may be looking to move Khaili Herbert, which cements Roschon Johnson’s backup role to D’Andre Swift. Swift has been amazing as of late, but the team continues to involve Johnson. He’s seen seven or most touches in each of the four games he’s played this season. He’ll continue to be the change-of-pace back who will see goalline opportunities as well as being a capable pass catcher.

D’Ernest Johnson (Jacksonville Jaguars) - Owned in 7% of Yahoo and 14.1% of ESPN Leagues

Travis Etienne missed the Jaguars’ Week 7 stomping of the New England Patriots in London due to injury. Beyond that, Etienne has been inefficient with his chances which has seen Tank Bigsby eat into his volume. If Etienne is to miss any more time, Johnson will continue on as Bisgby’s backup. Johnson saw 14 opportunities in Week 7, rushing the ball nine times for 38 yards and catching three-of-four targets for 32 yards.

Justice Hill (Baltimore Ravens) - Owned in 18% of ESPN Leagues and 22.6% of ESPN Leagues

The value for Hill comes in full point PPR leagues. If you don’t play in those, keep scrolling. His value also doesn't come each and every week. What John Harbaugh does better than most coaches is adapt. In games against tough run defenses, he uses Hill to catch passes out of the backfield. The Ravens are about to enter a stretch of games against mid-tier run defenses. They don’t have a single matchup with a team that’s currently ranked in the top 13 in terms of fantasy points allowed for the rest of the season.

Tyler Goodson (Indianapolis Colts) - Owned in 14% of Yahoo and 9.1% of ESPN Leagues

It’s obvious the Colts won’t roll our Jonathan Taylor unless he is 100-percent healthy. Trey Sermon has not been good in his absence and Goodson led the team in rushing attempts in Week 7. Goodson ran the ball 14 times for 51 yards and a touchdown against the Dolphins. He also saw 13 opportunities in Week six. When Taylor is back, Goodson will be a thing of the past but until then, I suppose you can own the Colts’ lead back, for what that’s worth.

Wide Receivers

Romeo Doubs (Green Bay Packers) - Owned in 44% of Yahoo and 37% of ESPN Leagues

In a loaded Green Bay Packers’ receiving room, Doubs has emerged as Jordan Love’s WR1. In back-to-back games he has posted fantasy lines of 18.4 and 17.4 points. He followed up his two touchdown performance in Week 6 with an eight reception on ten targets for 94 yards game against the Texans. He’ll now get the Jaguars who have allowed the second most fantasy points to opposing receivers and the Lions who have allowed the fourth most.

Jauan Jennings (San Francisco 49ers) - Owned in 30% of Yahoo and 45.6% of ESPN Leagues

The early season waiver wire darling is back. It is suspected that Brandon Aiyuk has torn his ACL and will miss the rest of the season. That opens a permanent spot for Jennings in this 49ers offense. Deebo Samuels also was limited in Week 7 with an illness and continues to be banged up. In Week 3 against the Rams, Jennings caught 11 balls for 175 yards and three touchdowns. It’s obvious Brock Purdy has a connection with Jennings.

Cedric Tillman (Cleveland Browns) - Owned in 0% of Yahoo and 0.3% of ESPN Leagues

With Amari Cooper shipped off to Buffalo, Tillman filled the X-receiver role for the Browns. In his first start, he saw 12 targets, catching eight of them for 81 yards. Deshaun Watson is also done for the season and one could argue this offense, at least the receivers, will be better with Jameis Winston throwing the football.

Rashod Bateman (Baltimore Ravens) - Owned in 18% of Yahoo and 7.5% of ESPN Leagues

Bateman just had one of the best games of his career in Week 7 as the Ravens took down the Buccaneers on Monday Night Football. He caught all four of his targets for 121 yards and a score. That's three straight weeks of at least four receptions. Over the last three weeks he's totaled 16 targets, 12 receptions, 250 yards and two touchdowns. Lamar Jackson is once again playing MVP level and football and as of late, Bateman has been a big part of that.

Keon Coleman (Buffalo Bills) - Owned in 32% of Yahoo and 44.4% of ESPN Leagues

People are always quick to downgrade options when a team acquires another piece. That was the idea with Coleman as the Bills brought in Amari Cooper. Instead, Coleman had the best game of his career. He caught four-of-seven targets for 125 yards. With more focus being spread out on other weapons, such as Cooper, Khalil Shakir and Dalton Kincaid, things are going to open up downfield for Coleman.

Ricky Pearsall (San Francisco 49ers) - Owned in 13% of Yahoo and 5.5% of ESPN Leagues

As talked about already with Jennings, opportunities are opening up in San Francisco. In the rookie’s first game action after recovering from an off-season gunshot wound, Pearsall led all 49ers’ receivers in snaps while receiving a 16.1-percent target share. The 49ers invested a first round draft pick into the Arizona State product for a reason. It may take a few games but Pearsall will be heavily featured for the rest of the season.

Troy Franklin (Denver Broncos) - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.7% of ESPN Leagues

The Oregon product has strung together back-to-back quality performances. He caught five-of-six passes for 50 yards this past week against the Saints and caught his first touchdown in Week six against the Chargers. His role has continued to grow nearly every week. Let’s also not forget that he played with Bo Nix in college.

Dontayvion Wicks (Green Bay Packers) - Owned in 27% of Yahoo and 19.2% of ESPN Leagues

When given the opportunity, Wicks has shown out for the Packers. In Week 7 against the Texans, he caught three-of-six passes for 48 yards and a touchdown. He’s now seen at least six targets in three-of-his-last-four games. The production is too spotty to really trust him but when he’s called upon, he produces.

Tight End

Hunter Henry (New England Patriots) - Owned in 31% of Yahoo and 27.4% of ESPN Leagues

In the two games that Drake Maye has started for the Patriots, Henry has seen a 20-percent target share while averaging 5.5 receptions and 66.5 receiving yards. Those are TE1 numbers. I don’t think anything else needs to be shared here, especially for a position that’s been as poor as the tight end.

Cade Otton (Tampa Bay Buccaneers) - Owned in 39% of Yahoo and 42.3% of ESPN Leagues

Otton has become a main-stay in this series and that's for good reason. He just went off for eight receptions on ten targets for 100 yards on Monday Night Football. He's now seen at least four targets in each of his last five games and has seen at least six targets in four of those. I say it often but with how poor the tight end position has been this season, Otton has proven to be a gem.

Ja’Tavion Sanders (Carolina Panthers) - Owned in 1% of Yahoo and 0.4% of ESPN Leagues

Sanders has seen at least five targets in each of his last three outings and at least six in his last two. He hasn’t done a ton with these chances but posted back-to-back weeks of 49 yards in Week 6 and 61 yards in Week 7. The touchdowns will come with this type of production as he’s yet to score his first NFL touchdown.
